SWD BACKGROUND 

   Sabah Wildlife Department (SWD) was officially established on 1st January 1988. Prior to this, SWD was part of the Wildlife and Forest Recreation division under the Sabah Forestry Department. The division was upgraded as an official department under the Ministry of Tourism and Environment Development. At the same, the Rhino and Wildlife Conservation Committee was abolished and all technical staff has been transferred into SWD. With the establishment of this department, all responsibility regarding the management and administration of wildlife in Sabah is fully conducted by SWD.
